Refinishing Hardwood Floors in Alpharetta
Our Primary service
The typical Alpharetta refinish is a first sand. These floors were laid new with the house; they have never been touched, and they still carry full thickness above the tongue, which means we have four to six sands of life to work with rather than one.
We sand to bare wood in three grits, sample stain on your actual floor in the room it will live in, then seal with three coats. We capture dust at the drum and vent it to a sealed unit outside, so most families stay in the house during the work. Furniture comes back 48 to 72 hours after the final coat.
Full details on the process, timelines, and finish options are on our refinishing work page. Standard sand-and-finish runs $3.50 to $6.50 per square foot.
New Hardwood Floor Installation in Alpharetta
Secondary service
Installation in Alpharetta splits cleanly depending on the floor. Above grade over a wood subfloor, solid 3/4" is the right answer and the one that lasts longest. On slab, including nearly every basement, engineered is the right product, and solid is a mistake we would rather avoid than fix later.
Either way, moisture testing comes first. Slabs get a calcium chloride or relative-humidity reading, not a hand on the concrete, and wood acclimates in the house before we fasten a single board. That step decides whether a floor cups in year two.
This includes carpet and tile removal, subfloor prep, and hauling. See the full spec on new hardwood floors, or ask about luxury vinyl plank for basements that have ever taken water.

What We Do Most in Alpharetta
The local pattern
Three jobs account for most of what we are called out for in Alpharetta.
First-time refinishing on original red oak
01
Floors laid during original construction that have never been sanded. Full thickness above the tongue, no previous repairs to work around, and they refinish beautifully. This is the single most common job we do in Alpharetta and the easiest one to get right.
Engineered hardwood over slab or basement
02
Homes built on slab or with finished basements almost always have engineered floors, and not every engineered floor can be sanded. We measure wear-layer thickness at a threshold or vent cut before quoting. Above 4mm usually takes a full sand; thinner veneers may only tolerate a screen-and-recoat.
Color change away from mid-tone red oak
03
Much of the red oak we refinish here went down in mid-tone stains that now read as dated. The most common request we get is a shift toward white oak tones or a natural matte finish. That is a stain-and-finish decision, not a replacement decision, and we sample on your actual floor first because red oak's pink undertone fights grays and light neutrals in ways a showroom chip will not show you.

Common Questions From Alpharetta Homeowners
Before you call
How much does it cost to refinish hardwood floors in Alpharetta?
Standard sand-and-finish refinishing runs $3.50 to $6.50 per square foot across metro Atlanta, including Alpharetta. Board repairs, stain color changes, and stairs affect the final number. We provide a written quote after seeing the floor, and there is no charge for the visit.
Do you have a showroom in Alpharetta?
Yes, 1815 Hembree Road, Suite 210, Alpharetta, GA 30009, is open by appointment, weekdays 8:00 to 5:00. Seeing stain samples on real wood under real light matters more than most homeowners expect: the same color reads differently on red oak than on white oak, and differently again in morning versus evening light.
Can you refinish the engineered hardwood in my Alpharetta home?
Often, depending on wear-layer thickness. Homes on slab or with finished basements usually have engineered floors. A 4mm-plus wear layer usually takes a full sanding, while thinner veneers may only tolerate a screen-and-recoat. We measure at the threshold or vent cut before quoting, never guessing at the brand.
My floors are the orange-toned red oak that everyone had in the nineties. Can that be changed?
Yes, and it is the most common request we get in Alpharetta. Sanding to bare wood removes the old stain entirely, so the color is genuinely open. The one caveat is that red oak has a pink undertone that clashes with grays and very light neutrals, so we always sample two or three candidates on your own floor before committing to the room.
Do you charge extra to come out to Alpharetta?
No. Alpharetta is our home market and the showroom is here, so there is no travel charge and generally no wait for a visit. Estimates are free everywhere we work.
Does the Alpharetta showroom carry samples I can take home?
Yes. The showroom on Hembree Road holds stain samples on real oak, and we would rather you took two or three home than chose from a chip under our lights. Color reads differently in your own rooms, and the light through your windows shifts a stain noticeably through the afternoon.
